Who We Are

We exist to exalt Christ through our worship, equip believers through the Word, encourage one another with wholesome fellowship, and evangelize the world through our witness.

At Second Assembly we offer relevant preaching of God's Word, exciting and engaging worship, community involvement and ministries for the whole family. There are also plenty of in-house opportunities to get involved in doing ministry!

What to Expect

What can you expect at our church? We offer something for the entire family! We have children's ministries for your kids, Wednesday youth ministries for your teenagers, a Sunday School class for every age, and monthly senior adults fellowship. We also have a staffed nursery for infants for all services.

If you’re new, we encourage you to fill out a Visitor Card to let us know more about you, but that is optional. We just want you to feel welcome.

If you have kids, please be assured that all of our volunteers who work with kids are trained, screened, and background-checked.

Our worship is a blend of hymns and contemporary songs. Pastor John’s preaching is relevant to our times and always built around the words and principles of scripture.

Our History

In 1937, God planted our church at the edge of Joplin in a small community called Chitwood. Over time the landscape of the area has changed and Chitwood was itself absorbed into Joplin, but our mission has remained the same: to be a representative of Christ to our community in love and deed- and to the world with our missions giving. Missions is a priority at Second Assembly, and we’re proud to be part of what God is doing on in every corner of the world.

Our Beliefs

When we read the book of Acts, we find that we’re reading about a Pentecostal church, and that’s the kind of church we want to be, too.

Second Assembly is part of the Assemblies of God movement, which has a Pentecostal heritage and was founded more than 100 years ago. We’re in complete agreement with the 16 Fundamental Truths of the Assemblies of God.
